FAQs

What can be preserved in resin?

Anything that can be dried can be preserved in resin! Everything from photographs to fur to jewelry to cremated remains can be incorporated into your piece.

Will my piece yellow over time?
All resin naturally yellows (also known as ambering) over time. However, I only use the highest quality resins infused with UV inhibitors and stabilizers to keep your pieces looking beautiful for years to come.

Will my flowers look exactly the same dried/in resin as they did fresh?
All flowers change slightly during the drying process. Florals will often darken during the drying process. Red flowers may become a dark maroon and white flowers often dry more cream or brown. Some flowers preserve extremely well, while others are prone to falling apart. I do my best to reassemble and preserve the integrity of all flowers, but not every bloom in the bouquet may be salvageable. When cast in resin, some flowers may also show translucent spots on the petals, called “bruising”. This is a natural process that occurs as flowers are handled. Flowers may also fade with time as part of the natural aging process of your piece. In the same way that the resin prevents premature yellowing, the UV-inhibitors also help to preserve the coloring of the flowers. However time, as well as exposure to excessive sunlight, may cause your flowers to lose some of their color.

I dried my flowers myself. Can they still be preserved?
Absolutely! Air dried flowers/bouquets can absolutely be preserved so long as they are in reasonable condition.

Will my piece(s) be flawless?
Each piece is crafted lovingly by an imperfect human handling imperfect natural specimens. Because of this, there may be small imperfections in the finished pieces. While I do my best to create the most flawless products possible, the natural, and often unpredictable, nature of both flowers and resin may result in small bubbles/air pockets on or around the surface of the flowers, layer lines from pouring the different layers of resin, swirls in the resin, small pieces of errant silica gel, or other small, surface imperfections.

How long will it take to get back my piece(s)?
The total processing time from drying to finishing is between 6-8 months and may be shorter or longer based on outside circumstances and workload. Flowers are in the drying stage for 4-6 weeks minimum before resin casting can even begin. All items are handmade by Salty Ginger Resin’s singular artist. In addition, certain environmental conditions are not conducive to resin casting. If the environment is excessively cold, excessively hot, or the humidity is high, resin cannot be poured without jeopardizing the quality of your pieces, so resin work would need to be postponed under these circumstances.
